Jemma Izzard,
Associate

01604 876697

Jemma is an Associate who qualified as a solicitor in 2006, and has practised in children/family law since, in recent years developing a specialism in public law cases.  She is a member of the Law Society’s Children Accreditation Scheme which is a specialist panel of solicitors who have been assessed by the Law Society as having a high skill level to be able to represent children within court proceedings.

Jemma represents both children and parents and/or other family members in public law proceedings which occur when the local authority have become so concerned about the welfare of a child they issue court proceedings to ask the court to consider the future living arrangements for them and whether they can continue to live with their parents.

Her work also includes representation of parents and/or family members in adoption and special guardianship cases and representation of children in private law proceedings (disputes between family members without the involvement of the local authority) where children are made parties to the case due to level of complexity.

Jemma regularly acts for clients where there are issues such as mental health difficulties, substance misuse, neglect, domestic violence etc. She has also represented clients in complex cases involving non-accidental injuries, sexual abuse and child death.

She has been involved in several cases which have set legal precedents following High Court or Court of Appeal decisions. Most recently these have included complex areas of law in respect of the admissibility of foreign convictions in family proceedings and parental alienation.

She also represents parents, children and wider family members in private law disputes. These cases arise where there is a disagreement within the family about who should care for the children and who should have contact with them and how much or what needs to be done for this to be safe. This can arise at the point of a marital breakdown because the adults don’t agree or at any other time there are conflicting views within the family about what arrangements are best for the children.

Jemma can also assist with cases involving domestic violence within the family and advise on and represent in proceedings for protective measures which might be available such as Non-Molestation Order. She strives hard to achieve the best possible result for each and every client, taking time and care to provide legal support for people at what can be an extremely difficult time in their life. She is highly regarded by clients and professionals alike.
