Is There Such A Thing As A “Good Divorce”?
Reasons to choose Wilson Browne
Wilson Browne Solicitors support the Good Divorce campaign, designed to raise awareness of why people getting divorced should choose a Resolution Member to advise them and the real value of taking early advice from a specialist.
Resolution is a community of Family Justice Professionals who work with families and individuals to resolve issues in a constructive way. Resolution was founded in 1982 by a group of family lawyers who believed that a non-confrontational approach to family law issues would produce better outcomes for separating families and their children. In now has over 6,500 members.
All Resolution members commit to the code of practice when they join. It promotes a constructive approach to family issues and considers the needs of the whole family, in particular the best interests of the children.
The guiding principles behind the code are the values that are imbedded within the family team at Wilson Browne. By instructing a Resolution member to guide, advise and support you through the divorce, you can expect them to do the following things:
- Listen to you;
- Be honest with you and treat you with respect;
- Explain all the options and give you confidence to make the right decisions;
- Help you focus on what is important in the long term;
- Help you balance financial and emotional costs with what you want to achieve;
- Work with others to find the right approach and the best solutions for you;
- Manage stress in what can be an already stressful situation.
The fee earners within the family team at Wilson Browne Solicitors are members of Resolution and the code of practice we all committed to when we joined Resolution is of paramount importance to us when assisting our clients in relation to the breakdown of their marriage or relationship.
One might ask is there any such thing as a “good divorce”?
We understand that divorce is an undoubtedly emotional and stressful time for everyone who unfortunately, experiences it. This is, of course, entirely understandable as the breakdown of a relationship often brings with it feelings of sadness, anger and despair.
From a practical perspective, the breakdown of a relationship also brings with it changes to your longstanding routine and by far the most significant issues for our clients are their anxieties about what the future holds. There are frequently many questions to be answered such as:
- How will I manage financially?
- Will I be able to stay in my home?
- How do we tell the children?
- Who will the children live with?
Even in cases where both parties remain on relatively good terms, these worries will still arise. Our experienced family lawyers here at Wilson Browne, whilst obviously offering a sympathetic ear, will work with you to help you resolve the specific issues arising in your case. It is important to bear in mind that a good family lawyer will not only have your best interests in mind, they will also try to find a way to resolve problems in the best interests of your family.
It is important to perhaps remember that you may not always like the advice that you lawyer gives you but please bear in mind that it is your lawyer’s job to look at matters from an objective perspective, stepping away from the emotional aspects of relationship breakdown which often create complications during divorce proceedings and advise you accordingly.
Take early advice from our experienced family lawyers. Even if you do not want to proceed with a divorce immediately, it will help you to find out what your options are.
