Christmas 2024 Message From the Chair of Wilson Browne Solicitors

2024… a year of success? Or was it running through treacle? Strolling down a stable path or stumbling over potholes?! For us at WB it was all of the above! Sometimes the more things change, the more they stay the same or so it seemed… What a year with a strange sense of Déjà vu as a certain individual heads back to The White House, another budget that will hit people hard, and various other events that perhaps made us all think “hang on…haven’t we been here before?”

Interest rates calmed, markets settled, the election came and the budget loomed – activity paused in some sectors, surged in others. Recruitment issues subsided, we grew… and yet some key vacancies remain – sound familiar?

Our financial performance has been stronger than last year, thanks in large part to investment in our systems and our people over previous years. 2024 saw us retain 6 out of 7 newly qualified solicitors that trained with us, an inspiring record for the firm! That performance sees us continuing to invest, 2025 will bring further advancements in our internal systems, our new CRM comes online, and more AI in our speech recognition software (we are lawyers after all.. we trade in words!) as well as a new group that includes representatives from all over the business, charged at making things better, finding improvements.

For the fourth year in a row we were awarded the Platinum Trusted Service Award by Feefo, the independent review body. We retained our Lexcel badge – the Law Society’s legal practice quality mark, together with our Law Society accreditations. All of our eligible teams are now featured heavily in the Legal 500 (the ‘who’s who’ of law) and we continue to receive national referrals. We have continued to sponsor events large and small, from PTA Christmas raffles to the region’s premier Northamptonshire Business Awards, the Northants Life Awards, and the NNBN awards – each recognising local excellence in their own ways.

Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, on behalf of everyone here at Wilson Browne Solicitors I wish you the very best for the festive season. The best Christmas present I have had on the business front this year remains the ability to give and receive quality referrals. To be trusted with someone else’s client is a rare thing indeed, and a responsibility that we do not take for granted. We are only continuing on this growth journey because of our people, the people that trust us with their work, and the people that trust us with their clients. AI will never replace those personal relationships, and I thank you sincerely for your gift of trust.

Last year I praised our rainbow nation. This year I herald (and poach an idea from!) my own Irish roots, and I leave you with this non-denominational thought “May you have walls for the winds, a roof for the rain and tea beside the fire. Laughter to cheer you, those you love near you, and all your heart might desire. May joy and peace surround you, Contentment latch your door, And happiness be with you now, And bless you evermore”.
