What Are Vento Bands?

These are the bands of awards for what we call ‘injury to feelings’.

These rewards are entirely discretionary and are made to some extent in most successful discrimination claims.

What is the update?

The updated Vento bands for claims presented to the employment tribunal after April 6th are as follows:

  • A lower band of £1,200 to £12,100 (less serious cases);
  • A middle band of £12,100 to £36,400 (cases that do not merit an award in the upper band); and,
  • An upper band of £36,400 to £60,700 (the most serious cases) with the most exceptional cases capable of exceeding £60,700.

An award might exceed the top of the upper band (i.e., £60,700), but this will only be in the most exceptional circumstances.
