Reasons to choose Wilson Browne
15th – 21st May 2023 is Dementia Action Week which is run by Alzheimer’s Society each year to raise awareness of Dementia and to encourage people to support and work with people living with dementia in the community and wider.
This year’s focus is on Diagnosis and, in particular, Diagnosing well. Alzheimer‘s Society is reviewing the pathway for Diagnosis and working with their ageing well team, and supporting GP’s and Memory Assessment centres to help people have a timely diagnosis.
At Wilson Browne, it is not just during Dementia Action Week that we focus on people Living with Dementia, our clients are our focus all year round. We offer a person centred service and consider the needs of the individual and their family and carers when offering advice and supporting our clients.
Our Court of Protection Team work with people living with Dementia on a daily basis. We interact with our clients in a respectful and supportive manner to enable people to continue safely living in the community and others in care facilities.
People with dementia will often need help making decisions in relation to their financial affairs and their everyday care decisions, this can be done under a Power of Attorney or a Court of Protection Order.
Here at Wilson Browne, we help people enter into those arrangements, and for some clients, our partners, Vicki Pearce, Neelam Maher and the partners appointed as Directors of our Wilson Browne Trust Corporation act as those attorneys or deputies.
We take our roles very seriously and ensure that our training is comprehensive not only in the Law but in the surrounding areas of practice.
We bring in other disciplines within the Court of Protection team, with Clare Edwards having a strong background with benefits and HMRC; James Batey having worked as an authorised court appointed officer within the Court of Protection making Court Orders and Vicki Pearce as a Solicitor for the Elderly; Trustee of Northamptonshire MIND and a committee member of Northamptonshire Dementia Action Forum (NDAF). Our front of house staff, our Court of Protection team and our Private client team are all dementia friends.
NDAF started life as an Alzheimer’s supported Dementia Action Alliance, the group has since grown and now has its own identity, which Vicki has been integral in creating and driving this forward.
The group includes members from the University of Northamptonshire; St. Andrews Hospital; Northamptonshire Borough Council; Alzheimer’s; Fire Service; Care homes, and individuals living with dementia sharing their experiences. The aim of NDAF is to raise awareness about dementia and to make the county of Northamptonshire a more dementia friendly place in which to live and work.
We share research, experiences and good practice; we build relationships on a professional basis to improve the services we offer to people living with dementia; we arrange and support community events and signpost individuals and organisations.
Collaboratively we are building a network of those who live and work with people with dementia to improve all of our overall experiences and ability to support them.
